Upgrade your plan

Open Billing from the account menu, then choose Upgrade plan. Free and trial users can choose monthly or yearly billing before checkout.

Upgrade when you need:

  • a higher monthly session allowance
  • more retention
  • continued tracking after a trial
  • access to paid plan features
  • fewer interruptions from session limits

Review the plan details before checkout so the session allowance and billing cycle match your expected traffic.

Monthly and yearly billing

Plans may be available on monthly or yearly billing. Monthly billing gives more flexibility. Yearly billing is usually better when you know you will use UserTrail for a longer period.

Before checkout, confirm:

  • selected plan
  • billing cycle
  • price
  • included session allowance
  • discount or coupon details if one is applied

Coupons and referral discounts

If you have a valid coupon or referral discount, apply it during upgrade before checkout.

Only one discount can be assigned at once. If a referral discount is already assigned to the account, additional coupons cannot be assigned at the same time.

Some discounts apply only for a limited period, such as the first three months. Review the checkout and billing details before confirming payment.

If you upgrade from one paid plan to a higher paid plan, Stripe applies a prorated upgrade charge based on your current billing period.

That means you do not normally pay the full new plan price for time already covered by the existing subscription. Stripe calculates the difference and applies it during checkout or subscription update.

When you upgrade mid-month, your session allowance period is anchored to the upgrade or subscription start date. That date is used for future monthly session refill emails.

Invoices and payment history

Billing history is available from the Billing page when invoice data is available from Stripe.

Use it to review:

  • invoice dates
  • paid amounts
  • subscription changes
  • billing cycle
  • payment status

If an invoice is missing or payment details look wrong, check the Stripe-hosted billing area if available or contact support.

Cancel subscription

Cancelling schedules the subscription to end at the current billing period end. Paid features remain available until that date.

For example, if your current billing period ends on July 31 and you cancel on July 10, paid access remains active until July 31. The subscription does not renew after that date.

Cancellation does not usually delete your account immediately. Reports and data access depend on your plan, retention settings, and account state after the subscription ends.

What happens after cancellation

After the cancellation effective date:

  • the account moves away from the paid plan
  • paid plan limits no longer apply
  • tracking may stop or reduce based on the new account limits
  • session allowance follows the remaining account plan
  • access to paid features may be removed

Export important reports before the subscription ends if you need long-term offline copies.

Failed payments

If a payment fails, Stripe may retry the payment depending on billing settings. During this period, your subscription state may change.

To fix a failed payment:

  1. Open Billing.
  2. Update the payment method if needed.
  3. Retry or complete payment through the billing flow.
  4. Confirm the subscription is active again.

If tracking was paused because the account lost access or ran out of credits, it resumes when the account is active and has available session allowance.

Billing permissions

Only account owners or users with the correct billing access should make subscription changes. Team members without billing permissions may be able to view analytics but should not manage payment details.

If you manage clients as an agency, keep billing ownership clear so the correct person receives invoices, refill notices, and subscription emails.

Before changing plans

Before upgrading, downgrading, or cancelling, check:

  • current session usage
  • next refill date
  • active sites
  • required retention period
  • expected campaign traffic
  • whether reports need to be exported

This helps avoid losing tracking during important campaigns or client reporting periods.
